This did it for me, I never in my life have seen or experienced anything like this, and I loved it! We climbed up a rigged ladder made up of garbage, shingles, and the gutter to the rooftop where it could all be seen. The red, shingled roof drew a strong contrast against the white stucco that made up the walls of the houses. It was like a switch flipped in my head, and I was having the time of my life.

For the first time on the trip, I didn’t care about the crowd of strangers everywhere I looked. I was just having fun. Music was playing, people were dancing, drinking, and socializing, and all was well with the night.

Finally, climbing down off of the roof, we headed off through the narrow walkway and noticed the large crowd, still in the dim street, gathered around something on the side of the road. When we got closer, my face instantly fashioned a grin, and I laughed. It seemed like such a great way to end the night.

Three days later, as I pulled off of Storke Rd. on to El Camino Real, I was a new man, with new stories and a new view.

No longer was I afraid to step out of my comfort zone and go into a crowd of strangers, because in the big picture...everybody is just there to have fun.

Sitting there under a lone street lamp, as if it was a spotlight on a stage, was that pearl-white Rolls-Royce Phantom from earlier in the night.

A large black man wearing the largest white tee I've ever seen in my life leaned up against the side of the hood staring out over the crowd, pointing and motioning for select women to come over to the car. At this point none of us had any idea what was going on.

“Maybe he’s a pimp, and those are his ho's he’s rounding up.”

“No, that doesn’t make any sense. Why would he be rounding up his ho's?” Turns out that rapper Nas had a concert the next day, and that was his tour manager rounding up girls for a pre-party. Filling the Phantom up, they sent a limosine for more.
