| The Office of Academic Programs and Undergraduate
Studies provides leadership in securing and maintaining a university-wide
perspective in development and evaluation of undergraduate programs, especially
general education, and the Vice Provost represents this broad perspective on the
University Curriculum Committee. This office
is responsible for coordinating assessment
activities, including participation in program
reviews of undergraduate majors, teacher preparation programs, general
education, multicultural curricular initiatives, accountability and campus
accreditation activities, and coordinates with
the Chancellor's Office in securing approval
for new programs. In collaboration with the Faculty Development Coordinator,
the Office of Academic Programs and Undergraduate Studies also supports innovative curricular
initiatives leading to better teaching and learning, including distance education, service learning
and scholarly investigations in these areas as well as implementation of
improvements to teaching in the undergraduate curriculum.
The Vice Provost's Office oversees three majors: Undeclared, Interdisciplinary Studies and Liberal Studies (non-teaching), and supports advising for these majors. Assistance is provided to students with general education petition procedures and, in collaboration with the Advising Center, assists students in understanding the general education program and other graduation requirements. In collaboration with the Office for Student Affairs, Undergraduate Studies provides support for innovative student programs such as Freshman Interest Groups (FIGS) designed for first time college students. The Vice Provost's Office also provides leadership in the areas of space allocation, facilities, and emergency management. |
