HUMBOLDT TAKES TROPHY IN NATIONAL
QUIZ BOWL
A team of Humboldt
State University
students swept into Reno, Nevada
recently and carried away the championship at The Wildlife Society's National
Quiz Bowl, outscoring Colorado State
University 80-55 in the final
round. The quintet was accompanied by 14 other wildlife students from Humboldt
and their coach, Professor David Kitchen. "This was only the fourth
National Quiz Bowl ever held, however, the Wildlife Society has long sponsored
regional competitions," he said. "Humboldt has won the last six
consecutive Western Student Wildlife Quiz Bowls and have
an overall record of 23 championships in the 33 trips to the event since
1965." The other tourney teams hailed from Purdue, State University of New
York at Cobbleskill (the first National Champion),
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, University of Tennessee, Texas A&M,
Texas Tech, Utah State and Stephen F. Austin University (Texas). "We are
justifiably proud of the tradition of excellence characterized by the wildlife
program at Humboldt," said James Howard, dean of Humboldt's College
of Natural Resources and Sciences,
himself an expert on amphibians, reptiles and their habitats. "This validates
our belief that students leaving this program are better educated than students
in similar programs anywhere in the country. We have, without doubt, the finest
program of its kind anywhere." Congratulations to all participants!
