Courtney Terry (2009 graduate)
Courtney (right) was named HSU Outstanding Student of the Year for 2009 for her student activism and social justice leadership, particularly for her role in organizing a student production of George C. Wolfe’s play The Colored Museum. Courtney has been accepted into the Master’s program in African American Studies at Clark Atlanta University.
Julia Cupp (2008 graduate)
Julia Cupp (2008 graduate) is living in Oregon and plans to return to school to get her teaching credential. While a student, Julia researched birth control and forced sterilization in Puerto Rico, and she also wrote a major paper on education in prisons. Julia did her service learning with North Coast Music Mentors, which sparked her interest in education as a tool for social justice.

Elisa Oceguera (2008 graduate) is a student in the Master’s program in Ethnic Studies at San Francisco State University, where she is researching the relationship between food and social justice.
Keri Gross (2007 graduate)
Keri Gross (2007 graduate) is currently a Community Health Educator for Planned Parenthood in Santa Barbara, California. Keri was a student intern and volunteer for Planned Parenthood in Humboldt County while she was a student. Keri writes about her experience as an Ethnic Studies major: “My education … fully prepared me to work in an incredibly multifaceted work environment. I work for Planned Parenthood of Santa Barbara as a community health educator and the population of students I work with are second and third generation Latino youth. They are struggling with racism, classism, ageism, sexism and educational discrimination and it’s amazing how tough life can be for these youth of color in such a geographical paradise. …The students I am privileged to work with are incredible, and Planned Parenthood is dedicated to their education…”
