Job description: I'm currently in a combined M.A./Ph.D. program in ethnomusicology at UC Santa Barbara. My research deals with the history of the cello in Arab music ensembles, with a focus on Egypt and issues of cultural security and heritagization.

Why did you choose this program?
I pursued a double-major in International Studies and Music to unite my interests in music history and performance with my interests in global relations and anthropology.
How did this program prepare you for your job?
This program gave me a "bird's-eye view" of many disciplines, preparing me for graduate studies in a highly interdisciplinary field.
What did you enjoy most about the program?
Studying abroad, taking classes with Dr. Holmes, making lasting friendships ... the list goes on!
