After graduating from Humboldt in 2007, life has been difficult for me. I have had freelance camera work for KCSB (City of San Bernardino) from February 2008 to April 2008. I was let go because they could not afford to pay freelancers any more. So far no major career in my degree. On the good side I have had work for Empire Wrestling Federation with my first match on March 15, 2008 and hardcore wrestling legend Mick Foley wished me good luck on my first match. Now I am part of a new pro wrestling show called Wrestling Revolution. We will begin taping on October 11, 2011. For more info wrestlingrevolutionproject.com

While attending HSU I was a student assistant for the ITEP Program. After Graduation I was lucky enough to get a full time job at ITEPP as the Curriculum Resource Coordinator and now after ten years I am the Resource Coordinator and the Student Advisor for the Program.

After graduation in 1996, I moved over to China for a "short" teaching stint, and I've been over here ever since. In 2001 I got my Master's in English from Iowa State. I'm now working for Intel as their Chengdu site employee communication manager and working on their China staffing online engagement strategy.

While I did not pursue an advanced degree in Philosophy - my bachelors in Philosophy has served me well. I feel that my written communication, critical thinking and "outside of the box" perspective have come in very handy as I have navigated my way through the business world.

I retired July 1, 2011, and received the best retirement "gift." In May I was flown to Washington D.C. to receive a National Wetlands Award. It's been 5 years since I graduated from HSU; it's been a long and winding journey full of great adventures, amazing people, and about 6 different jobs. I've hiked 800+ miles over sectitons of the Pacific Crest Trail and Appalachian Trail, traveled to Kauai, led teenagers on backpacking and canoeing trips in the maine woods, volunteered with kids in Peru, hiked to Macchu Piccu on the inca trail(a lifelong dream), been to 3 weddings, 3 funerals and just got engaged! I've lived in Oakland, Ca, Wiscasset, Maine and now am back in my hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah. During college I worked for non-profit organizations and am proud to say that I've stayed in the field. Some highlights: Project Assistant for the Bay Area Alliance for Sustainable Communities, Environmental Educator for The Chewonki Foundation and Youth Education Specialist for Wasatch Comrmunity Gardens. I now run afterschool and summer programs for refugee youth resettling in Utah, helping them to acculturate to life in the U.S., build social skills and self-esteem, and navigate the school system. I finally found a job that utilizes all 3 of my degrees!

Life post-Humboldt state is great. I went on to do a Master's degree in medieval Islamic intellectual traditions with an emphasis on Islamic philosophy, science, and mysticism. I have decided for the time being not to pursue a PhD but you never know. right after completing my Master's (2009) I was awarded a Henry Luce fellowship to study the history and origins of Islam in Indonesia for a semester at Gadjah Mada University in the city of Yogyakarta. My research there is going to be included in a book published by the university I studies at which will be completed by the end of the year. I am also currently working on a book on similarities and differences of mythological and scientific methodologies with retired Auburn University professor (and my father in law) Dr. James Bradley.

After many years as a public school Science teacher, I'm now teaching Spanish and World Geography/History at a small, university prep school in Poulsbo, WA. West Sound Academy is a good fit for me, emphasizing global citizenship, critical thinking, and service learning--and I can ride the bus to work. I live near Port Townsend, with my wife Jocelyn and children Will(9) and Serena (4). Would love to hear from any Geographers or students who went to Oaxaca in '84.

Co-founded The Ink People, a community arts organization, with Brenda Tuxford (MA in Art 1980, deceased) in 1979. I have continued to be an active artist. The Ink People has facilitated over 200 community arts projects and currently oversees more than 60. In 2011, I received the Selina Roberts Ottum Award from Americans for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts for excellence in community arts leadership. In 2005, I received the Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership Award from the California Association of Nonprofits, as examples of many other awards.
