Services For

HSU Alert

Description

HSU Alert is the University's emergency text messaging notification system. Students, staff, and faculty are asked once each semester to enter, confirm, update, or opt out of providing a cellphone number to which a text message can be sent by emergency management personnel to alert individuals to an emergency situation affecting the campus.

All messages sent through the HSU Alert system self-identify as coming from HSU Alert.

System Configuration

Any system that can be used to access myHumboldt can be used to enter, confirm, change, or opt out of HSU Alert.

Additional Information

Emergency notification numbers stored in Account Center prior to go-live have been transferred automatically to HSU Alert. Please enter any updates after 3/3/14 via myHumboldt, not Account Center.

Alerts will also be sent to your @humboldt.edu email address, but text messaging is faster and more efficient than email in an emergency.

Note that emergency notification numbers are numbers we use to contact you about an emergency, not the numbers we use to contact a third party if something has happened to you.

All messages from HSU Alerts will start with the words HSU Alert, but if you would like to store the information in your contacts, all you need to do is add the short codes 672-83 and 226-787 to your contacts as HSU Alert. Messages may come from either number, so please store both in your contacts.

If you have additional questions, send them in email to hsualert@humboldt.edu

Accessing This Service

Staff and faculty access their emergency notification information through a new section of the Contacts tab in the My Profile pagelet on the myHumboldt Faculty/Staff tab.

Students access their emergency notification information through the new Personal Info pagelet on the myHumboldt home tab.

Using This Service

Once each semester, an HSU Alert update screen pops up when you go to log into myHumboldt. This popup requests that you take one of four actions:

  • Enter your emergency text notification cellphone number
  • Confirm the emergency text notification cellphone number currently in the system for you (this number is displayed in the pop-up)
  • Change the emergency text notification cellphone number currently in the system for you (this number is displayed in the pop-up)
  • Opt out of providing an emergency text notification cellphone number

You must select one of these four options in order to continue to proceed to myHumboldt; if you simply close the pop-up, it will reappear each time you log into myHumboldt until you do select one of the four options.

You can change your emergency text notification cellphone number at any time through the myHumboldt pagelet.
