Job description: I am in my 8th year as a member of the HSU Department of Social Work faculty team.

For CTFC I design and deliver training content largely focused on ICWA compliance and best practices. Training is offered to tribal organizations as well as state and county organizations.

Why did you choose this program?

I was able to stay connected to my tribal community, family, ceremonies, and life ways while obtaining my higher education. I was able to actively gain valuable work experience and professional development in and with the tribal community while obtaining my education. The content was relevant to my learning and professional goals.

How did this program prepare you for your job?

I learned valuable lessons in advocacy, political action, tribal history, and tribal governance structures that prepared me for a career advocating for the advancement of tribal sovereignty and social services programming. I made valuable relationships while in school that supported me and prepared me to engage in meaningful work in and with tribal communities.

What did you enjoy most about the program?

I made lifelong friends, some of whom became more like family. There was a strong sense of community and family that made me feel like I was a part of something bigger than myself. There were systems of accountability and opportunities for growth and mentorship that helped me grow in my responsibilities. It was fun.

What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?

Welcome to the family. Be fearless. Stay humble.
