Internships

Opportunity awaits

Cal Poly Humboldt offers many hands-on experiences and experiential learning opportunities.  Internships are an important example, and you can access multiple different types of internships through different campus offices. This webpage will help you understand the variety of internship experiences available, how they differ from each other and where you can find them.

Academic Internships

To participate in an academic internship, the student must be enrolled in a corresponding course. Academic internships can take place in person or virtually; on campus or off campus; and can be paid or unpaid.

Paid Internships

Internships are offered by campus offices or companies during the academic year or during the summer. These opportunities are offered by several different offices on campus and may be on or off-campus.

These may be able to count for course credit.

Research Opportunities

Opportunities offered by faculty members at Cal Poly Humboldt, or other universities, research labs, and government agencies to generate new knowledge. Experience is usually paid, especially the off-campus opportunities. Experience can be advertised through the Sponsored Programs Foundation, departmental websites and newsletters, and faculty advisors.

These opportunities can sometimes also be called internships or fellowships.

College Corps

The College Corps program is a paid service program. Students can earn up to $10,000 for completing 450 service hours during the year by working with local government agencies and non-profits to support projects in one of three focus areas: education, climate change and food insecurity.

Service Learning Courses

Service Learning Courses, also known as Community-Based Learning, use meaningful service to enhance course learning and address community needs. Students receive course credit for their service. These are unpaid opportunities.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities range from shorter one-time opportunities through semester-long programs

Major-specific Opportunities

Each department advertises additional opportunities through departmental websites, emails, newsletters and faculty advisors. These opportunities can range from research opportunities with faculty, to paid off-campus jobs and internships.
