About James

Why did you choose this program?

I chose Environmental Resources Engineering at HSU because it is one of the only programs where undergraduates can get hands-on experience with renewable energy. I was especially drawn by the Schatz Energy Research Center, where students can work as interns, and the Renewable Energy Student Union, which gives students the opportunity to design and install renewable energy systems in the community.

How did this program prepare you for your job?

The ERE program taught me how to solve problems, organize a big project, and write code. It also taught me how to write technical reports. I use these skills every day on the job.

What did you enjoy most about the program?

I enjoyed the hands-on lab assignments related to renewable energy. During the first week of class, we used solar power to generate hydrogen. Later in the program, we measured the efficiency of solar modules and solar hot water systems.

What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?

This is a challenging program. If you put in the work, then you will learn a lot, and you'll set yourself up for a rewarding career.
