Matthew Simmons, J.D.

Lecturer

I've always loved learning and want to inspire my students to feel the same way. When I think back on the best teachers I've had over my life, the ones who stand out are the ones who challenged me to think for myself rather than just repeating back information out of a textbook. I firmly believe that school isn't just about the material itself but about developing skills that will help you tackle other material in the future. I try to structure my classes so that students will both learn the basics of the subject as well as critically consider the assumptions being made behind those basics. My hope is that, in doing so, my students will leave my class knowing how to ask the right questions throughout the rest of their careers. Because I am a practicing attorney, I also bring many real-world and ongoing examples into my teaching. My hope is that in doing so I can keep things interesting!
