Health Education Annual Events
Fall:
Recreation & Wellness Fair:
September - The annual Recreation & Wellness Fair is an event hosted by Health Education and Recreation Sports. The fair features campus and community resources focused on recreation, leisure, health, and wellbeing. To get students connected and focused on creating a compassionate and healthy relationship with their body and community.
The Consent Project:
October or November - The Consent Project is an annual campus event that creates conversations on campus about consent and how we can communicate and embody consent within our actions and choices, reduce harm on our campus, and establish a culture that listens to, believes, and supports survivors. It features interactive community art projects and a gender inclusive speakout for survivors of sexualized violence, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. It is a collaboration between Peer Health Education & Check IT.
Safer Halloween:
Late October - Health Education's Halloween Event is about recognizing that Halloween is a major holiday for all things health related. Halloween when you're a kid is about candy and costumes, in college it's about parties. The Safer Halloween event is a fun way to get prepared for the holiday. It's a collaboration between Peer Health, Check IT, Oh SNAP, and the Clubs Office.
The event includes a haunted maze, free food, Halloween crafts, and tons of free stuff.
World AIDS Day:
December - World AIDS Day is held on the 1st December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day, held for the first time in 1988.
The Peer Health Educators use this day to help people get tested, destigmatize life with STIs/STDs, and to educate about safer sex practices.
Stress Less For Final Week:
December - The week before finals The PHEs put on events to emphasis self care and help students prep for the first Finals Week of the year.
Spring:
Body Positive Week/V-Day:
Febuary - A week of events dedicated to self love and fat/body positivity.
Safer Spring Break:
March - SPRING BREAK! Ah, the call of the college student. For some of us, it's true Spring Break is a time to party, for others not so much. The Safer Spring Break event was create to give us the tools to take care of ourselves and our friends during Spring Break. This can include safer drug and alcohol use, sexual health information, checking in (IT) on the people around us, or even how to avoid party culture
Trans Day of Visibility:
March - TDOV is a day to show support for the trans community. It aims to bring attention to the accomplishments of trans people around the globe while fighting cissexism and transphobia by spreading knowledge of the trans community. Unlike Transgender Day of Remembrance, this is not a day for mourning: this is a day of empowerment!
Sexland:
April - Sexland is a sexual health event that focuses on exposure to new ways of thinking about sex and sexuality while validating sexual experience and diversity through a lens of informed consent.
Mental Health Awarness Week:
May - Similar to Stress Less for Finals Week, this is a week of events about de-stressing and self care. However, May is also Mental Health Awarness Month. The PHEs also use this time to educate about mental health as a social justice issue, highlighting issues of stigma, access, and inequality.
