Areas of Interest

My research interest most frequently incorporates museum specimens to study of phylogeny, taxonomy, evolution and biogeography. I am most interested in diverse lineages of mammals, particularly adaptive radiations and have done biological surveys in Southeast Asia, Madagascar and the United States. I use cutting edge molecular techniques to generate large datasets from degraded DNA sources (over 100 year old museum specimens). I am also proficient in bioinformatics, and a novice with GIS.

Areas of Interest

Dr. Reiss is primarily a morphologist, but is broadly interested in all aspects of amphibian biology, including development, ecology, and conservation.  He is also interested in the development and evolution of other vertebrate groups, in the history of biology, in evolutionary theory, and in knowing the natural history of everything he can.

My research is collaborative, integrative, and covers a wide-range of subjects, such as hypothesis-testing on the origin of species and trait diversity, phylogenetic inference, taxonomy, biogeography, natural history, and conservation.

Dr. Goley has been actively studying marine mammal biology in northern California since her arrival to Cal Poly Humboldt in 1996.  Her research interests include the ecology and behavior of marine mammals; VHF/satellite-telemetry; marine mammal/fisheries interactions; oil spill and marine mammal interactions; marine mammal foraging ecology; and marine mammal stranding studies.
