Portrait of Randall Masselink

Randall Masselink

Horn Coach

Randall Masselink started playing horn professionally as a high school student, a lifelong passion that has taken him to several continents and has woven together a wide variety of experiences including orchestral, chamber, theater and solo performance, recording, conducting, coaching and teaching. He has also been a devoted music educator, recognizing both the profound impact his early music teachers have made on his own life and the importance of carrying that tradition on into the future.

Randall was fortunate to have excellent horn mentors, including Neil Saunders, the late principal horn of the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, and Dale Clevenger, late principal horn of the Chicago Symphony. His performing career began in the US with the Grand Rapids Symphony, the Kalamazoo Symphony, the Chicago Civic Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He then moved to Italy, performing with the Orchestra della Toscana and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Orchestra Sinfonica dell’Emilia Romagna “Arturo Toscanini”, the Orchestra della RAI di Torino, and the Orchestra della Radiotelevisione della Suisse Italiana.

Since returning to the U.S. in 1997 to teach music in the Healdsburg schools, he has continued performing widely in the greater Bay Area with such orchestras as the Santa Rosa Symphony and the Symphony of the Redwoods, as well as various theaters and chamber music groups.
