Ryan McGaughey

Piano Coach

Ryan McGaughey began piano studies at the age of 12. He attended Humboldt State University for his bachelor's degree and studied under the instruction of Daniela Mineva. He then attended the Eastman School of Music where he received a master’s degree in piano performance studying under Alexander Kobrin.

He has been featured as a soloist with the Eureka Symphony, Humboldt Symphony and the North State Symphony. He has participated as a performer in the Round Top Music Festival in Texas and the Atlantic Music Festival in Maine.

Growing up playing video games, Ryan also brings virtuosic classical style piano playing to the world of video game music, performing many video game music concerts around the country and self-curating many of those concerts, which often combine live video game music with visuals, audience interaction, and sometimes even mini games and prizes!

Ryan has done much collaborative work with other musicians ranging from singers to string and wind players, percussionists and even other pianists. He has performed in many ensembles from trios to orchestras, performing works from J.S. Bach and W.A. Mozart to John Cage and Witold Lutosławski. Ryan has also worked with current composers including American composer, Libby Larsen.

He currently lives in the South Bay Area and is a full-time musician, accompanying and performing as well as running a full piano studio teaching students the art of music and piano.
