Marcus Barela

I grew up in Cameron Park, CA, a small town east of Sacramento. I went to Ponderosa High School and afterwards went to Folsom Lake college for about 3 full years before transferring here in Fall 2024 with 2 associates degrees in Biology and associates in Science & Mathematics and Arts & Humanities. I came to Humboldt because of the beautiful rain forests and because I have been studying the Northwestern salamander (Ambystoma gracile) for about 2 years now, and since they are native here this is the perfect place to be! I’m a Cellular & Molecular Biology major and I focus on amphibian-algal symbioses. From trips to the jungle to research internships and various positions working with students getting ready to transfer at my community college, I am here to help with anything I can.
