About Danny

Why did you choose this program?

I transferred over from College of the Redwoods. As a CR student I joined the Humboldt Symphony led by Paul Cummings. It was a great experience and I got to meet a lot of the Humboldt State Music facility. As I began to work in private lesions with Ginny Ryder I knew that I would want to peruse a bassoon performance degree in addition to a psychology degree.

How did this program prepare you for your job?

The Psychology program taught me many valuable skills and knowledge that I use in my current job. My experience in that program led me to peruse a carrier in Applied Behavior Analysis. My Music degree taught me much about dedication and focus. It also taught me how to take my passion for music and apply it to how I live my life.

What did you enjoy most about the program?

I enjoyed working with the small ensembles and the private lessons in the music program. Through those I met an amazing network of fellow musicians that I still do a lot of projects with today. In the Psychology program I enjoyed the structure of the courses and the subject matter. The courses Psychology of Prejudice, Death, Dying, and Grief, and Behavior Analysis effected me deeply and set me on the path that I am currently on.

What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?

The network of peers and faculty members that you develop in these programs is their biggest strength. That support network is invaluable and will help you throughout your time at HSU and into your post-college life. There will be many opportunities in these programs to explore and develop your passions and goals.

Though my career is mostly nonmusical, I do regularly make music in our community. I play bassoon with the Eureka Symphony orchestra and a variety of chamber music groups. I also play bass with some groups in the community including, The Curiosities, Claire Bent, Opera Alley Cats, and the Rebel Liberties.
