About Lyn
Why did you choose this program?
The first reason in choosing to enroll in the child development program at Humboldt is understanding and knowing my love for working with children and understanding them at each age. The child development program at Humboldt captivated my interest with seeing that students in the program may have opportunities for hands-on experience in the Child Development Lab on campus. Even though it is a smaller program at Humboldt, I found that it would most benefit my learning experience to have a good student to instructor ratio.
How did this program prepare you for your job?
This program helped me to find where my strengths were in working with children. Before I dived into learning about the developments of children’s brains, bodies, and temperaments, I only knew that my interest in working with children is because of how I was able to connect with children and play with them. With each course, I learned more and more on the main ideas of life starting before birth and after birth as a child grows up to become an adult. I found that my strengths lie in my connection and work with younger children; toddlers and preschool aged children.
What did you enjoy most about the program?
I loved that I was able to connect to each of my instructors and professors. They worked hard to provide meaningful lessons and encouraged us to seek their help when needed. I was able to gain some of my first experiences with lesson planning and taking care of a group of children being a part of this program.
What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?
This program allows students to get to know one another and support each other’s learning. Getting to know your professors, instructors, and classmates is the best way to learn from each other. In understanding child development, it also involves understanding yourself as well.
