Adams Puryear

Adams Puryear is an artist and educator whose work merges craft traditions with sculpture, installation, and time-based media to examine life within an internet-dependent culture of convenience and control. His practice slows and reframes the overwhelming conditions of contemporary life, translating systems of data collection, AI surveillance, satellite infrastructure, and digital saturation into material and experiential forms. Drawing from the imagery and anxieties of networked technologies, Puryear explores problems that persist rather than resolve, asking viewers to experience the pressures of contemporary technological systems. He holds an MFA from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the Ace Hotel Gallery in New York City, the Kennedy Museum of Art in Athens, Ohio, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Galerie Christine Mayer in Munich, Germany, and the Icheon World Ceramic Center in South Korea. He has previously taught at the Kansas City Art Institute and Hunter College in New York City.
