milpaclub@humboldt.eduMilpa Club (RSOs)
We want to build a club that explores traditional food systems through storytelling, sembrando (sowing seeds both literal and metaphorical), and harvest practices. Encompassing these three elements as our milpa which traditionally involves the polyculture practice of growing corn, squash, and beans together - we aim to cultivate a community grounded in renewal, heritage, and hands-on learning. Our mission is to create an interconnected space where students can explore their cultural roots (whether unknown or not) and engage in experiential learning opportunities such as planting a milpa, volunteering at local farms, and sharing stories passed down through generations. In this way, we hope to deepen our understanding of the past, honor the wisdom embedded in food systems, and foster a collective responsibility to the land we inhabit.
