Redwood Chapter of Environmental Educators and Interpretors (RCEEI) (RSOs)

We are a group of HSU students from a broad array of majors who are passionate about the natural environment and educating our community, particularly children, about the importance of the outdoors and forging lasting connections with nature. As undergraduate environmental educators and interpreters, we focus on rediscovering our roots in environmental and social justice and discussing stories which we feel are underrepresented in contemporary mainstream understandings of history. We prioritize making scientific information accessible to every audience, engaging with the local Humboldt community, and building our professional skills as students of environmental education and interpretation. The purposes of RCEEI are to provide professional development and volunteer opportunities to HSU students related to education and interpretation, facilitate engagement between HSU students and the local Humboldt community (especially schools), increase awareness about historical and natural resources interpretation and education outside the traditional classroom setting, provide access to job and internship opportunities, and gather a likeminded community of HSU students and faculty to discuss our accomplishments, projects and passions. In past years, we have facilitated and participated in community events such as the Hoopa Valley Elementary School Fish Fair, Freshwater Elementary School Environmental Education Day, and March for Parks with Washington Elementary School at Eureka's Sequoia Park.
