Jackie Kasun passed away January 1, 2009. Her work helped guide Arcata to build its renowned marsh and wastewater treatment facility. She was raised by her grandparents in Watts. She graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, then enlisted in the U.S. Army, and went on to earn a master's and later a doctorate at Columbia University. She held teaching positions at Pomona College, the University of Maryland in Heidelberg and Berlin, Germany, Park University in Park, Missouri, The University of Arizona, and California State College at Fullerton. Jackie Kasun wrote the book, “The War Against Population,” and later founded Humboldt Pro-Life.
