Will Fisher
Associate Professor
Will Fisher came to Humboldt in 2013 as an Economics Lecturer. The next year, he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. In 2021, Dr. Fisher was hired as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics. Will enjoys fly fishing in Montana in the summer.
In 2020, Prof. Will Fisher was awarded the campus-wide Excellence in Teaching Award for a Lecturer.
During his time at Humboldt. Prof. Fisher has taught almost all of our courses at least once. Recently, he's specialized in teaching our environmental economics courses, including the graduate course Energy Economics and Climate Change Policy. Prof. Fisher is a member of the Humboldt Sustainability Steering Committee and the Environmental Studies faculty.
Research Focus
Dr. Fisher was the CO-Principle Investigator on a research grant “Coronavirus Energy Forecasts" for the Redwood Coast Energy Authority in 2020.
In 2019 Dr. Fisher published “Teaching the Tragedy of Open Access: A Classroom Exercise on Governing the Commons” in the International Journal of Pluralism and Economics Education, Vol. 10, No. 3, (2019) pp. 278-287. In 2022, he made a presentation at the International System Dynamics Conference in Frankfurt, Germany. This subject was teaching environmental economics concepts and sustainability using simulations in the classroom.
Dr. Fisher is working on two manuscripts titled "The Relationship between Debt and Tragedy of the Commons" and "Veblenian Critiquest, Old and New: Criticism of Marx by Thorstein Veblen and His Followers."
