About Colt
Why did you choose this program?
I chose the Rangeland Resource Science program because I have always had a strong interest in the conservation of our natural resources as well as deep rooted ties with the ranching community. This program offers the opportunity to bring both of these fundamental values together. With the combination of education and experience I knew this program would provide the foundation to sustainably manage our rangeland resources.
How did this program prepare you for your job?
The Rangeland Resource Science program provided a diverse set of skills and knowledge that I have been able to use in my career every day. This program gave me a broad understanding of the interactions between ecological processes and human activity and how by using the best management practices available we can balance the two. I have to find a balance every day at my job to best protect natural resources while maintaining a multiple-use environment.
What did you enjoy most about the program?
I enjoyed the hands-on experience this program provides. It seemed like we were always going somewhere and seeing new things while getting real world experience in what we were actually learning in the classroom. I also enjoyed getting to know the instructors, as this is a smaller program the interaction and one-on-one time with the instructors was invaluable.

Coming out of Humboldt State with a Rangeland Resource Science Degree will open the door to the professional workforce and you will carry with you a broad spectrum of knowledge and skills.
