Max Brunsfeld
Physics & Astronomy, Music minor, 2011
Max Brunsfeld, 2011, Physics and Astronomy, moved to Oakland after graduating from HSU and worked as a software engineer in San Francisco for three years. Brunsfeld recently started working for GitHub, a company that makes tools for collaborative software development, and whose employees are distributed all over the world. Brunsfeld has since moved back to Arcata to raise a family.

Justin Byrne, 2000, Social Sciences, has been in medical publishing since 2003, based in San Diego. From 2007 to 2013, He served as the managing editor of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology's two specialty journals, JACC: Cardiovascular Imaging and JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions. Since 2013, he has been the managing editor of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. Byrne married Alicia Jack (’00, Journalism) in 2004. They live in San Marcos, Calif., and have two children, Declan and Clara, born in 2006 and 2008, respectively.

Janice Wieman Parker, 1967 English, became active in her local land trust after retiring from her third career. Parker was interested in setting aside what little open space was still available in her town. Parker writes that, “the skills I received at Humboldt in writing and public speaking, have become my greatest assets as the president of Common Ground Land Trust. The environment was not my major in college, but it is now.”

Jeff C. Stevenson, 1981, Journalism, recently published his first book. "Fortney Road: Life, Death and Deception in a Christian Cult" is the true story of the religious group, the All Saved Freak Band.
John Voris
Wildlife, 1955
John Voris, 1955 Wildlife, died on March 19, 2015. He received a master’s degree in Wildlife Management from Iowa State University in 1957. Voris’s first job was with Nicholas Turkey Breeding Farms in Sonoma, Calif., where he was employed for 25 years. In 1982, he joined the staff of the Animal Science Department at UC Davis as a Turkey Specialist. He provided research-based consultation to San Joaquin Valley turkey growers, and published papers in academic journals on land-use disputes, agricultural nuisance complaints, and turkey care practices. The poultry facility guidelines Voris developed with the industry were the basis for an ordinance in Fresno County and are used as guidelines in four other counties in the area.

Sheri Forbes, 1985 Natural Resources Planning & Interpretation and 1990 Environmental Education) has worked at several beautiful and inspiring places, most recently Glacier National Park in Montana and Mount Rainier National Park in Washington. As Chief of Interpretation and Education for the Pacific West Region of the National Park Service (NPS), Forbes currently provides leadership for interpretation, education, and volunteer programs at NPS sites in six western states.

Bruce Edwin Deuel, 1967, Wildlife, retired from the California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife in October 2007 after more than 34 years. Since then Deuel and his wife, Kathy, have traveled to every continent chasing new birds, and spent a lot of time enjoying their nine grandchildren.
