Fulbright Awards

Through both student and scholar awards, Fulbright programs expand perspectives through academic and professional advancement and cross-cultural dialogue, creating connections in a complex and changing world. 

Offering opportunities in more than 140 countries, Fulbright participants study, teach, conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to mutual understanding. These talented Fulbrighters from all backgrounds inspire, innovate, and contribute to finding solutions to challenges facing our communities and our world.

Fulbright U.S. Student (post-bac) Awards

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers unparalleled opportunities in all academic disciplines to passionate and accomplished graduating college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals from all backgrounds. Program participants pursue graduate study, conduct research, or teach English abroad. 

The State Department pays for you to teach English or attend graduate school abroad for one year.

Apply a year in advance, typically during the summer before your senior year.

Students must apply through their campus Fulbright Program Advisor (FPA)

April: Select destination

Fulbright U.S. Scholar awards (for faculty)

Fulbright Scholars - college and university faculty, administrators, and researchers, as well as artists and professionals -- build their skills and connections, gain valuable international insights, and return home to share their experiences with their students and colleagues.  Scholars come from and go to all institution types and geographic regions across the United States and around the world. 

  • Apply one year advance, ideally in alignment with your sabbatical or DIP eligibility
  • Obtain a letter of invitation from an international campus
