Portrait of Katlin Goldenberg

Katlin Goldenberg

Director

Katlin (she/her) received a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, and graduated from Cal Poly Humboldt in 2013 with a Masters of Science in Natural Resources (Wildlife). Following graduation, she moved to Bristol, England, and spent time working in conservation and stewardship with the Avon Wildlife Trust before returning to Arcata. In 2015, she began work as a Coordinator under a CSU STEM Collaboratives grant to launch Cal Poly Humboldt’s very first Place-Based Learning Community, Klamath Connection, with only 63 students in its first year. The well-documented success of this initiative enabled the expansion of the PBLC model to become the default experience for all majors in the College of Natural Resources and Sciences under an HSI STEM grant. Upon completion of the grant, PBLCs were centralized with state funding to become an official Department of Place-Based Learning Communities. Katlin assumed the role of Director in 2023 and led the expansion of PBLCs to support all first-time first year students at Cal Poly Humboldt by 2024. Though her work no longer focuses specifically on natural resources, she spends her free time appreciating Humboldt’s incredible natural beauty with her family and will always pause to admire her thesis study species - the Steller’s Jay.
