1) "U.S. Policy in the Global South," Sept. 19, 4pm PSTThe 2022-2023 Feinberg Series, Confronting Empire, is exploring histories of U.S. imperialism and anti-imperialist resistance. It is presented by the UMass Amherst History Department with the Ellsberg Initiative for Peace and Democracy and partners. The keynote presenter, Dr. Rigoberta Menchú Tum, participated in the farmworker movement as a young woman. Her seminal testimonial, I, Rigoberta Menchú, An Indian Woman in Guatemala, denounced Reagan’s support for government attacks on Mayan communities. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992 for her social justice work. Journalists Vincent Bevins and Amy Goodman will join the keynote presenter. Bevins will outline a global history of U.S. terror against civilians during the Cold War, based on this book The Jakarta Method: Washington’s Anticommunist Crusade and the Mass Murder Program That Shaped Our World. Renowned journalist Amy Goodman will moderate the event. Goodman is the host and executive producer of Democracy Now!, recipient of the Right Livelihood Award, and co-author of six New York Times bestsellers. UC San Diego's one-year M.S. in Computational Social Science program seeks students with a social science background (i.e. psychology, economics, cognitive science, sociology, political science, linguistics) who are looking to gain technical skills to join our CSS M.S. graduate program. Our program combines coursework approaches and formal models across social science disciplines with modern computational data analysis techniques. With a hands-on curriculum involving a summer bootcamp, core foundational training, in-depth electives across fields, and a portfolio-building capstone project, this program provides substantive and wide-ranging practice applying skill sets to real-world problems preparing graduates for careers in industry, public policy, education, non-profits, or for further academic study in a Ph.D. program. RSVP to attend our virtual information session on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 5:30pm-6:30pm to learn more about our program. 5) Project Green Challenge 

Each October, Project Green Challenge (PGC)  informs, inspires and mobilizes high school, college, and graduate students worldwide focused on climate action, public health, social justice and advocacy. This call to action features 30 days of environmentally-themed challenges that touch lives, shift mindsets, and equip students with knowledge, resources and mentorship to lead change on campuses and in communities. Through conscious living, informed consumption, and individual and collective climate action, PGC participants are challenged to envision and work toward the healthy, just, resilient planet and future in which they can thrive. Each day during October, a uniquely themed challenge is delivered to registered participants in email at 6am Pacific Time and remains live for 24 hours. Theme-related prize packages are awarded daily for outstanding work and submissions.
