Shannon Collart

Councilor

Department: University Advancement- Alumni Relations

Term: 2026

I am a lifelong North Coast resident and proud alumna of Cal Poly Humboldt—then Humboldt State University—where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Elementary Education. I have worked at the University since 2008 and have had the opportunity to serve in several areas across campus. I began my University career in the Office of the Provost before moving to Academic Personnel Services. I later worked in the combined Academic Personnel Services and Human Resources department and then joined the Dean’s Office for the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. I currently work in Alumni Relations as the Advancement Events Coordinator, where one of my primary responsibilities is overseeing the planning and coordination of Commencement.

The variety of positions I have held has given me a broad understanding of the University and the people, departments, and processes that keep it running. Throughout my time here, one of the things I have valued most is the opportunity to connect with staff from across campus. I am grateful for the many friendships and professional relationships I have developed over the years, and I deeply appreciate the knowledge, dedication, and sense of community that staff bring to Cal Poly Humboldt.

This is not my first time serving on Staff Council. From 2010 to 2012, I served as Council Secretary and as a member and Chair of the Service Projects Committee. During that time, I helped coordinate staff potlucks, brown-bag lunches with the President, staff mixers, spirit days, door-decorating contests, pumpkin-carving events, fundraising efforts, and other activities designed to bring staff together. I am excited to return to Staff Council, reconnect with colleagues, meet newer members of our campus community, and help ensure that staff feel heard, supported, appreciated, and connected.

Outside of work, I am the proud mom of three boys and love spending time with them, my husband, my large Portuguese family, and my friends. I am also a huge soccer fan and am passionate about the game. I enjoy bringing people together, whether for a large celebration or a small gathering at home. My events are often themed, and there is a good chance that costumes will be required! Creating opportunities for people to connect, laugh, and feel welcome is something I value both personally and professionally. As I return to Staff Council for a second time, I look forward to bringing that same enthusiasm and community spirit to my service.
