Basics of Customer Service

April 7, 2026

Time: 9:00 am-10:30 am

Location: ZOOM Virtual Session

Instructor: Deavan Johnson

Maximum Enrollment: 25

This course introduces the fundamentals of effective customer service, focusing on respect, active listening, clear communication, ownership, and professionalism in everyday interactions. Participants will learn why customer service matters, who our customers are, and how small actions can reduce conflict, build trust, and improve outcomes. The session is designed for beginners and those early in their roles, though it is also useful as a refresher for established staff who regularly interact with students, colleagues, or the public. Learning will take place through a short lecture combined with interactive discussion and practical examples, including strategies for handling difficult situations. There are no required pre-activities, but participants are encouraged to reflect on recent customer interactions to support discussion.
