Academic + Career
Support
Faculty Fellow Advising
A faculty fellow advisor will be working with you to create semester plans that are tailored to your academic and career goals, as well as keep you on track with the scholar program requirements.
Academic Peer Coaching
Your academic peer coach will help you develop skills such as time management, learning techniques, class engagement strategies, and more, tailored to your needs.
Professional Development
We will provide you with professional development opportunities, such as building a resume and/or curriculum vitae (CV), writing a cover letter, a personal statement, and/or a statement of purpose.

Social Support
Each academic year, our ADPI+MENA staff hosts a variety of cultural events featuring hands-on activities, music, dance, presentations, and giveaways to help our campus community connect and learn about ADPI+MENA culture. We are always looking to educate our community about Asian cultures, so feel free to propose an event idea, and we will do our best to make it happen.
The ADPI+MENA Center has two spaces: one for socializing and the other for studying. The social space is stocked with basic needs, snacks, teas, and appliances. It is a great space to connect with other students and check out shared library resources for classes. The study space has two dual-monitor computers, school supplies, books, and a printer. You can also book the room for a prayer session, a meeting, or group activities.
Hosted by staff from Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Let’s Talk provides a safe and informal setting for you to share about personal concerns, explore identity-related topics, learn about counseling services and campus resources, or simply check in with someone who's here to listen.

Outstanding ADPI+MENA Scholar Award (OASA or ឧស្សាហ៍)
Overcoming sociological barriers while balancing academic responsibilities and serving our community is no small feat. In the Khmer language, ឧស្សាហ៍ means diligent and is pronounced us-sā, which sounds similar to the acronym OASA. We created OASA to recognize scholars who are diligent, resilient, and whose contributions deserve acknowledgment. By highlighting their work, we aim to inspire future scholars to continue creating meaningful change in our society.
A select number of ADPI+MENA Scholars from each cohort will be selected by the staff and faculty committee and notified via email to apply for the Outstanding ADPI+MENA Scholar Award (OASA), which recognizes their academic and professional growth and community impact. OASA will be selected based on several criteria*:
- A statement of personal, academic, and professional growth
- Resume/CV
- Community impact project
- Two recommendation letters.
There are no rules for what a community impact project should look like, but we encourage you to collaborate with other scholars and apply your major knowledge to create a meaningful impact on your community. Community impact projects can be through work, volunteer, or a passion project. Remember, the purpose of this project is to support* you in gaining hands-on experience that impacts your professional development and your readiness to transition into your chosen career or academic path. Making a difference in our community takes a lot of effort and time; thus, any impact you make is essential.
*Note: ADPI+MENA Center will try its best to provide you with the needed resources.
Acknowledgement
The ADPI+MENA Scholar Program is mainly funded by the California State University Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Student Achievement Program (CSU ASAP). CSU ASAP was authorized under California Education Code Section 89297.1 in 2022. The legislation provides for $8 million in ongoing funding for culturally responsive services to enhance student educational experiences and promote higher education success for low-income, underserved, and first-generation AANHPI students and other underrepresented students. We also want to thank Humboldt Associated Students (AS), the Learning Center, and other campus partners for their support of our program.
