About Carlrey
Why did you choose this program?
I chose this program because it was interdisciplinary. It excited me that I was going to be able to learn from professors in multiple disciplines and expand my analysis of the humanities and environment.
How did this program prepare you for your job?
The interdisciplinary analysis on creating immediate alternative futures while organizing for long-term system shifts is something I use every day. Burnout is very much real but ENST taught me to celebrate even the smallest victories as they will lead to the bigger wins.
What did you enjoy most about the program?
I enjoyed learning from my professors as well as my peers. Due to the diversity of academic paths, each student brought an invaluable perspective into the classroom. I also valued being able to take courses from neighboring departments such as CRGS and Philosophy that counted towards my core studies.
What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?
I believe that the HSU Environmental Studies program can build critical skills that are necessary to address the climate issues that are currently taking place.
