Kinesiology & Recreation Administration Scholarships
We have two scholarships specific to our Kinesiology & Recreation Administration majors. To apply for the Virginia Harris, and Sue Grigsby scholarship, and/or to see if you qualify for any other scholarships, use the Scholarships button in the Financial Matters Quick Links section in your student portal. Virginia Harris Scholarship
The late Virginia Torp Harris graduated from what was then known as Cal Poly Humboldt College in 1938 with a degree in physical education. She taught P.E. to girls in junior high in South San Francisco and later in Portland. James Harris (’36) was a student at Cal Poly Humboldt when he met Virginia, and they were married for 52 years. James’ brother Robert established the endowed scholarship in 1991 to honor Virginia’s passion for sports. The amount awarded varies and is based on merit.

Sue Grigsby Scholarship
Sue Grigsby of Lake Stevens, Washington graduated from Humboldt in 1979 with a Recreation Administration degree; she was also an outstanding track athlete. Sue was inducted into the Humboldt Athletics Hall of Fame in 1987 and was named an Humboldt Distinguished Alumnus in 2010 https://forever.humboldt.edu/distinguished-alumni?page=1.
Sue spent her professional career in education and is the retired Department Chair of Physical Education, Health, and Wellness at Everett Community College in Washington. The Sue Grigsby Scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in Kinesiology. A student interested in applying for the scholarship should do the following:
• Eligible students should apply through the Scholarships button in the Financial Matters Quick Links section of their student portal.
• Students can also go to the Financial Aid Office with any questions they have.
Sue Grigsby Scholarship Criteria:
1. Kinesiology major.
2. Undergraduate student who has completed at least 30 semester units and no more than 95 semester units at Cal Poly Humboldt.
3. Minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA.
4. Demonstrated academic promise, good citizenship, and ethics as determined by the scholarship committee.
5. Award is non-renewable.
Scholarship Amount: $750.00
