Naomi Grogan-Hurlich
LSEE Program Coordinator/Lecturer
After receiving my BA in Spanish Literature and my teaching credential and MA in Language Immersion Education from UC Santa Cruz, I taught in multiple K-12 grade levels. I began as a German-immersion and Spanish language-enrichment teacher in San Diego. My career as an educator has led me to teaching ESL and Spanish in Dunedin, New Zealand, English and Math in Costa Rica, and to teaching Spanish-immersion locally at Fuente Nueva Charter School.
In my 20 years in education I have also been a school-community liaison, interpreter, translator, immersion program developer, and school leadership board member. I have led professional development workshops in the area of cross-curricular integration that has included best practices in immersion instruction, constructing meaning in math and focusing on core ideas in science. Most recently, I have led Restorative Practice workshops as a tool for fostering inclusive environments and strengthening relationships in learning communities.
I began my career at the School of Education as a lecturer and supervisor, and have expanded as the Coordinator and Advisor for the LSEE program. I am thrilled to work with university students and local schools and continue to have an impact on our learning communities.
