Tristan Gleason
Graduate Program Coordinator & Associate Professor
Tristan Gleason earned his Ph.D. in Critical and Sociocultural Studies in Education at the University of Oregon in 2016, and his BA in biology from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME. Before pursuing his doctorate, Tristan taught middle school and high school science in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, and in Portland, OR. His research interests include social justice in teacher education, post-foundational qualitative research, and the intersections between science and society. His dissertation research on Oregon’s Outdoor School program was the recipient of the Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Qualitative Research Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association in 2017. His recent book, A Critical Ethnography of an Outdoor School: Reimagining the Relationship Between Science Education and the Politics of Climate Change (2022), expands on this topic.
