Jeffrey S. Navarro Mentorship Program
Jeffrey S. Navarro graduated from the Environmental Resources Engineering program at Humboldt in December 2014 and tragically died in a car accident a month later. We miss him dearly. Jeff’s family, Rene Navarro and Peggy Bryer, has created another way for us to continue to remember Jeff through the Jeffrey S. Navarro Mentorship Program, which supports 3-4 ENGR students per year to serve as mentors to their peers. Jeff was a kind and gentle person who made it easy for folks to be around him, always ready to help and dedicated to finishing his ERE degree.
With this mentorship program, the memory of Jeffrey S. Navarro will help more students obtain their bachelors degree in Environmental Resources Engineering and other engineering majors. Bio: Hi everyone! My name is Stephanie (she/her), and I’m in my final year at Cal Poly Humboldt, majoring in ERE. I transferred from Modesto Junior College in Fall 2024, where I earned my Associates in Mathematics and served in student government. I hope to share what I’ve learned from both my successes and my very educational failures. Outside of engineering, I enjoy nature walking and casual birdwatching, cooking and remixing recipes, making Spotify playlists, and keeping up with environmental news, which I also write about for El Leñador, Humboldt’s bilingual student newspaper.

Bio: Greetings! My name is Kat (They/Them). I am from San Diego, CA, although I spent much of high school in Havre, MT (a small town on the Hi-Line about 30 minutes under Canada). I am in my third-year of mechanical engineering here at Cal Poly Humboldt. I love listening to music, going on giant road trips, skateboarding, camping, and honestly just anything outdoors! I love space. It is so cool. I am stoked to meet new people and continue to help foster such an incredible community here at Humboldt.

Bio: Hello! My name is Kolby Nixon (he/him) and I am a transfer student from Southern California in my second year at Cal Poly Humboldt. The difference between the harsh climate of the desert compared to the lush greenery of Humboldt has been very pleasant to get used to. I am a person with faults majoring in mechanical engineering. I hope that I am able to help at least one person from my previous experiences and failures in this difficult field of study. Outside of class I enjoy walking on the beach and through the forest, cooking, exploring the area, and finding useful detritus for projects on the side of the road. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or just to talk about your experiences thus far.

Bio: Hi! I’m Amelia Reeves (she/her) and I’m in my third year at Cal Poly Humboldt! I’m majoring in Environmental Resources Engineering and minoring in Mathematics. I grew up in Sacramento, California, but I love the fog and redwoods here in Humboldt. I look forward to learning from and interacting with my mentees and strengthening our engineering community. Outside of school, I enjoy backpacking, knitting, biking, and baking sourdough bread.
