Jeffrey S. Navarro Mentorship Program

Jeffrey S. Navarro graduated from the Environmental Resources Engineering program at Humboldt in December 2014 and tragically died in a car accident a month later. We miss him dearly. Jeff’s family, Rene Navarro and Peggy Bryer, has created another way for us to continue to remember Jeff through the Jeffrey S. Navarro Mentorship Program, which supports 2-3 ERE students per year to serve as mentors to their peers. Jeff was a kind and gentle person who made it easy for folks to be around him, always ready to help and dedicated to finishing his ERE degree.
With this mentorship program, the memory of Jeffrey S. Navarro will help more students obtain their bachelors degree in Environmental Resources Engineering. If you're interested in helping us to continue Jeffrey's legacy of altruism, you can make a contribution to the Jeffrey S. Navarro Mentorship Program Fund here.
Navarro Donor Profile
Forever Humboldt published a Donor Profile on their website, giving a thoughtful picture of Jeff's hardworking and generous spirit as well as a summary of the program. Check it out for more information and some quotes from our founding Navarro mentors, Jax Gill and Jason McMack.
The Jeffrey S. Navarro Mentorship Program has supported 30 students since it began in the Fall of 2015. Find out more about former mentors and their journey through the ERE program.

Bio: Hi everyone, my name is Ian, and I am in my third year here at Cal Poly Humboldt, majoring in the Environmental Resources Engineering (ERE) Program. I am from El Dorado Hills, California, about 30 minutes east of Sacramento. I'm really interested in working on expanding public transportation infrastructure and increasing access to bike and walking paths. In my free time, I enjoy being outside, whether that involves rock climbing, hiking, skiing, surfing, camping, or mountain biking.

Bio: Hello, I'm Sol (they/he)! I transferred to Humboldt in Spring 2024 (I'm from Roseville, CA) and am majoring in Energy Systems Engineering (and trying to minor in Mathematics)! I'm really interested in the ways Engineering can aid or overlap with non-profit work, community-building, and environmental justice. Outside of school, I like to pick up various creative skills, tell and make stories with friends, make and engage with art, and learn as much as I can - though most weeks I spend my time cooking, gardening, and talking about videogames!

Bio: Hi, my name is Andrea and this is my second year here at Cal Poly Humboldt in the Environmental Resources Engineering program. I am excited and honored to be a part of this community and to connect with others in this program. I look forward to learning, sharing experiences, and to help make our community even stronger! Outside of school, I enjoy hiking, baking, painting, spending time at the beach, and collecting as many houseplants as I can. I’m always happy to swap a plant cutting–or answer any plant or engineering questions you might have!

Bio: Hello everyone! My name is Josh (he/him), and I am a third-year transfer student pursuing my bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering here at Cal Poly Humboldt. I am originally from Stockton, CA, but grew up in Wisconsin and Crescent City, a small coastal town two hours north of Humboldt County. Outside of class, you’ll find me watching movies of all genres, taking long walks out in the sun (or rain), and spending time on my hobbies such as crocheting, writing, and singing.
