About Samuel
Why did you choose this program?
I selected HSU for the environmental, cultural, and educational elements. Big redwood trees, people who love nature, and inspirational faculty made HSU the right choice for me.
How did this program prepare you for your job?
Studying at HSU provided the foundation of my skills in performance and creativity. I performed numerous concerts as a solo guitarist, as a guitar ensemble member, and as a clarinetist in the wind ensemble and orchestra. These experiences boosted my confidence, and my ability to engage with others in a cooperative dynamic environment.
What did you enjoy most about the program?
The faculty provided many opportunities for me to demonstrate my abilities.
What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?
It's worth it to live among the redwoods, near the coast, with good people, good food, and excellent educational programs. There's no other campus quite like HSU in California. You will cherish your time here!
In addition to becoming an adjunct faculty member at Cal Poly SLO, I am also a locally elected official, serving as President of the Coast Unified School District Board of Trustees since 2016 and currently in my second 4 year term. I am also an Academic Senator representing all part-time employees at Cal Poly SLO on the university senate.
