Major-specific Opportunities
Each department advertises additional opportunities through departmental websites, emails, newsletters and faculty advisors. These opportunities can range from research opportunities with faculty, to paid off-campus jobs and internships. Programs can vary quite a bit in whether some experiential learning is required by the program or if it’s offered as an additional opportunity. Each department has its own culture around advertising opportunities.
Please talk to your advisor and the departmental staff to find out more.

Anthropology
The Anthropology Department offers both an ANTH 482 Internship course for undergraduates, and an ANTH 682 Internship course for graduate students. Department internship opportunities are linked below.

Chemistry & Biochemistry
The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry offers unpaid research experiences through CHEM 495. Please contact the department for more information by emailing chem@humboldt.edu.
The Humboldt CIRM Bridges 3.0 Program is designed to produce biomedical scientists from diverse backgrounds committed to accelerating the discovery, development and delivery of stem cell, gene therapy and related technologies for improving human health.
We also encourage students to apply for paid summer research internships through the NSF’s Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. More information can be found at their web site. For additional information about REUs, please contact our department.

Communication
The Communication Department offers an internship course where students work with community, campus and non-profit organizations approximately 10-hours per week. Students can find more information below.

Computer Science
The Computer Science Department offers both a CS 482 Academic Internship course (offered both as a for-credit opportunity, or paid) and a Canvas Computer Science Fishbowl page that advertises current opportunities, including those available off-campus.

Critical Race, Gender & Sexuality Studies (CRGS)
CRGS offers a variable unit CRGS 482 Internship course. Two units may be used to complete major requirements. Our department works with the Center for Community Based Learning to place students with internship sites that match their career interests. We advise students that our major is applicable with every career. Their internship should focus on building work experience prior to their degree completion.

Engineering
The School of Engineering has information on its website about Awards, Scholarships and Research Funds. They also maintain a Canvas paged called the Engineering Fishbowl with announcements and various current opportunities, including paid internships.

Forestry, Fire, and Rangeland Management
Most students in the FFRM Department learn of paid internship opportunities through emails from our Department. We also post opportunities on boards near the Forestry Lobby in the forestry building. We offer one internship course for students in the Applied Fire Science major, or in the Forestry - Fire Management concentration, FIRE 482 (Applied Fire Internship).

Social Work
The Social Work department requires students complete a practicum experience as part of their major. Their website gives detailed information on how students in the program access these opportunities.

Wildlife
The Department of Wildlife offers paid summer internships for wildlife students through the Hogan Wildlife Summer Experience program. The call for applications occurs in March and will be sent to students via email and posted on Handshake. See below for other wildlife job and volunteer opportunities in and around Humboldt.
