1) Local Policy Research Opportunity for StudentsWould you like some real experience in policy research at the local level? The Business School and the Economics Department are teaming up to do a study that will analyze the costs and benefits of the formal incorporation of McKinleyville as a city (it is not currently incorporated as a city). They would like one or two political science majors or minors to be part of their research team, starting in Fall semester. The internship may provide academic units or not depending on the student's preference (the departments are working on some funding to pay students. The training covers planning issue campaigns, building grassroots support, lobbying, communications/media skills, fundraising, and more! After finishing the training, participants will receive an official certificate of completion. Think about applying for the Sacramento Semester program, hosted by Sacramento State University, which takes place in the Spring semester (see main page here). You must be a junior or senior with a GPA of 3.0 or above to apply. Our goal is to identify economic opportunities and strengthen collaboration amongst our businesses, economic development professionals, and leaders. The conference will center on conversations and networking with a focus on industry opportunities, infrastructure needs, and improving quality of life for all in the midst of a changing economic, climactic and cultural landscape.
