Generation Conscious Laundry Detergent Sheets
Project Description
This project proposed distributing Generation Conscious laundry detergent sheets to students across campus. The sheets were then purchased by SHIFT and provided to students for free—initially during Move-In at Orientation in August, and later through Oh SNAP! The selected detergent sheets are non-toxic, hypoallergenic, biodegradable, and significantly reduce plastic waste compared to conventional laundry products. They also produce fewer suds, conserving water and reducing wear on washing machines. Beyond environmental benefits, the project advances environmental justice by addressing the harms of plastic production, supports a Black-owned company, and helps meet student basic needs. At $0.20 per sheet, the detergent is approximately 15% cheaper than Tide Pods (via Amazon subscription), making it an affordable alternative. By helping students lower their laundry costs, the project also supports improved hygiene while freeing up limited funds for other essentials like food and housing.
