Text: "County Will Take over LAES Airport On July 1". Fred Moore noted the County purchased 434 acres in 1941 for use as on airport. Subsequently the fed gov bought 237 acres & construction several buildings. The airport has been continuously used by the fed gov since July 25, 1942. It was leased to the Army for the Air Force, then the Navy for air operations. It is currently leased to the Navy, which subleases it to Transocean Airlines who have been conducting the landing aids experiments. This means the County will soon own about 700 acres including the buildings. The County will take over the airport on a revocable permit on July 1, 1950.
