Text: Article noting that gold was found in some black sand underlying one of Eureka's streets. The location was not disclosed. Earlier in time in Eureka, gold was found while digging a well at 5th and C on the property of Louis C. Dorais. The property is next to the Eagles Hall. Another find of gold occurred in the Fairfield area and the sands at the mouth of Elk River contain black sand.
