Text: Article on Richardson's Grove. Contains history. Emmanuel Fritz determined fires burn through there in 1147, 1695, 1806, and 1820. The fallen tree started as a seeding around 675-700 AD and the ground level at the grove was 11 feet lower. The article says there were no state parks until 1928.
