Text: The B.O.S. denied a petition for a new road across the marshes from Eureka to Arcata. A route was "viewed" by Surveyor Connors Gearge Walker and A.L. Gastman. They reported back to the B.O.S. that the cost was very high for this 7 mile route & the distance saved from the current Old Arcata road was only 2 - 3 miles. Cost around $50,000 and several properties would have to be condemned to obtain the R/W. The damages claimed by each owner were high. The route ran north & east from the intersection of Myrtle & West to the eastern limits of the Santa Clara tract & on to the limits of Arcata.
