Text: C.E. Parkman of Fortuna commenced work in constructing a bulwark on the Van Duzen River upstream of the steel wagon bridge and Railroad bridge. The bulwark is needed to keep the river in the channel that goes under the bridges. Last year the river cut through the Hiller field which threatened to change the course of the river several hundred feet north thus leaving the bridges high and dry.
