Article on channel changes of the Eel since 1850. The article states that the Eel was confined to its channel before 1850 by the heavy stand of timber. Large portions of that timber had been removed by 1862. The great series of floods in 1862 created the Salt River channel as it (Eel) cut diagonally across the valley. The newspaper has a photo of an exhibit showing channels of the Eel over time.
