Congressman Clem Miller & two others died when their plane struck a tree 100 feet off the ground 20 miles SE of Eureka on the Wiggins Ranch on Sunday afternoon at 4:49 pm on 10/7/1962. It was a Piper Apache twin engine. Thick fog concealed the 5118 mtn peek. They hit at 400 msl. He was a carte madera Democrat. He sponsored the bill to create Point Reyes National Seashore. John F. Kennedy was President & signed the bill last month in Sept. Gov. Pat Bown said Pt Reyes would remain an enduring monument to the Congressman. The pilot was 50 miles off course.
