Text: First operations toward construction of highway from Eureka to Arcata begin Thurs 5/30/1918 when large clamshell dredge began digging basin in which to float herself on marsh. Thurs afternoon on north bank of Eur Slough. Land dredger crew will start operations next few days from Bayside direction.
