Text: The piers 1 & 2 of Fernbridge have settled, causing cracks to appear in the piers. Philetus Bell was the inspector for the county during construction. He said the piers were built on submerged redwood logs which had been under the river bed for several years and formed a bottom. With the change in the course of the river, the logs had moved and left the piers without a solid bottom. During close inspection, Mercer Fraser found some very bad spots in the concrete in pier #2.
