Text: Dedication of Michael J. Burns freeway. Opened to public this afternoon. Its 8 miles long from north limits of Eureka to north limits Arcata, cost 4,707,200. First constr. of road along edge of the bay started in 1918, graded in 1921, topped with concrete in 1925. Is current south bound lane, Section dedicated today is 5.1 miles long from Cannon Slough to Eureka Slough at cost of 1,807,200. Bridges are 37' wide, median 70' wide. Earlier section in Arcata opened in July 1954 constr. done with that stretch in 1951. Burns-Collier Act which turned state highways into modern planned systems.
